Nicaragua is the second poorest nation in Central America. Just providing the basic necessities of life is a challange for most families. Again, in our food ministry, we take a more personalized approach. Rather than handing out many small bags of beans and rice, we provide larger but fewer bags of the staples needed by most families. In our bags, we typically supply beans and rice to last a small family up to a week. We also provide the oil to cook the rice in. We may include eggs, cheese, canned meat or some other type of protein. We will also include laundry soap and other things needed by the family. In each bag we also place tracts, Bibles or other Christian lliterature. We then work with local churches to identify the families that my have greater needs. As we provide them with a few necessities, we are able to share with them the One who can provide for their spirtual needs.
