Michael is our main contact in Nicaragua. We met him when he was only 15 years old and attended one of our youth retreats. We were impressed with his maturity and he quickly gained our confidence. He is now 22 years old. He handles everything for our ministry while we are gone. When we need to rent a house, Michael contacts the rental company and makes the arrangements. He secures our rental cars for each trip. When we are made aware of a special need while we are gone, we can help with that need through Michael. He has his drivers' license and now does all of our driving there in Nicaragua. He is our guide and interpreter when we are there, and he is our hands and ears when we are not there.
Michael is in his last year of school in Chichigalpa. He has visited with us here in the US several times to learn more about the culture and language so that he can better assist us there in Nicaragua. He is working in his community in Nicaragua with his own ministry of providing soccer shoes and balls to all of the young people who want to play. He is "big brother" to many of the young boys in his community, giving advice and encouragement for their daily lives. He is doing an intensive self-study in English daily to perfect his English skills for interpreting and for his future dream of becoming a pilot. One of his favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13. "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
